LASER ENGRAVING works by burning away artwork that is shown as black in the design, try to steer away from thin lines within your design, as when engraved they will be too deep and not pick up in the wax. Try to image your design as a stencil - see example below. The image on the left would not engrave well, but will turn out much better when converted to the image on the right.
WRONG !RIGHT !
The drawing on the left was scanned at 300dpi and printing onto white gloss A4 card at full size, hand painting into a stencil effect using black and white Gouache paint, as the paint is opaque, you can paint the white over the black. The final painting is then re-scanned at 300dpi, lineart - fine quality mode, to give a good jpg image to work with for engraving. The scanned painting is then traced into vector format using Corel Trace to give an image for engraving.
As we need a very sharp image for laser engraving. Please create your seal approx. 15cm-20cm (6 - 8 inches) diameter (up to A4 width) based on the shapes above ~ download template (round - hex1 - hex2 - . Send your diagram in one of the following formats, I will convert the diagram to Corel Draw Vector format and reduce the image to the correct size. Please bear in mind that when the design is reduced any text will be reduced as well, I suggest that you print a small copy of your design, to give yourself an idea of how readable the text may be when converted to a wax seal. If your design is a jpg, please start with a 300dpi page and work in black only, not colour or greyscale.
  • CDR ~ Corel Draw 7 to 10 vector format ~ all objects combined no over lapping lines
  • JPG ~ 300dpi only, black line-art format - full page size
  • Corel Trace 'cmx'
  • Windows Metafile 'wmf'
  • PLEASE NO EPS, AI OR WORD FILES ~ as I am unable to open these

All ARTWORK IS REVERSED AT THE ENGRAVING PROCESS
Please ensure when using fonts in your design that you save your fonts as 'curves' or send the font as an attachment. Thin fonts do not engrave well - for the best results - go for chunky! Minimum point size 8-12 approx, depending on the font used.
Bear in mind when creating designs for laser engraving, that you do not use thin lines in your design, the laser burns deep, so thin areas may not make an imprint in the wax. Black filled areas work best where possible. Thin fonts will need to have a contour applied to make them heavier.
If using Corel Draw - please view your design in Wireframe mode - all paths must be closed, with no crossing lines. All lines used within in your design must be no thicker than a hareline (approx 0.001cm), you may need to add a 'contour' to your line to thicken it and remove the original line.
Submitted Designs not up to the above recommendations may require editing or even redrawing altogether, there is an extra fee for this service costing between £3 to £20, ranging from simple touching up, to a total redraw of your design, you will be advised of this prior to your ordering and advised the scale of service you need to select in the shopping cart.
